down turn destruction upon resoling

I am big on re-soling, save some dinero. But my down turned shoes are now completely flat after the resole. I sent them to a trusted company, rock and resole.

Do I need to buy a fresh pair or are there better places to get resoles that can reproduce the original geometry of the shoe?

Hola,
A resoler cannot maintain the original down turned nature of the shoe espeicially after 1-2 resoles.
This is a shoe thing and has nothing to do with the actual resole job they are doing. The New La Sportiva Solution has integrated a new P3 system which the slingshot rand maintains its down turned nature through multiple resoles. It has to do with the materials used in it.
Basically to answer your question. YES you are going to need to buy a fresh pair if you want to maintain the fresh down turned nature.
The solutions have been proven to maintain that shape after a resole so its fact and not fiction.

doesn't downturning usually disappear after a few months for a new pair anyway? maybe with some of the scarpa's or sportiva's the downturning should last though. I really dont know.

When I get mine back from rock and resole, I do actually notice a slight revival in the downturning(which quickly fades). i have come to conclude that down turning and rediculously tight shoes dont make the big difference we would like to say they do. but I dont redpoint 5.12(yet!).

The downturned shoes I use, Evolve Talons, are no longer quite as downturned visually as the once were.

However, after a few resoles they still maintain their downturned characteristics once I slip them onto my feet. Any well built pair of shoes will hold it's shape through a few resoles.

Might I suggest an upgrade?

I don't get the ridiculously tight shoe thing either. It just makes my toes scream which makes me far less likely to use good footwork and really stand on small stuff. Never tried a downturned shoe though. What's it supposed to do, anyway? Oh, and why do people tie their laces all the way around the bottom of their shoes? I never understood what that did either. I saw a guy dabbing his shoes with a chalk bag one time, too. Guess he thought it was like resin or something.

I've sent my Testarossas to Rubber Room in Bishop and they maintained most of the downturn (and my miuras.. which have a slight downturn) And have the option for all the different rubber types out there. *edit* Yos. bum is evolv not R&R

Downturn shoes help you on overhanging routes it helps you grab holds with the toe better than a flat shoe.. they are usually pointy-er too and concentrate the force onto a smaller spot

Just because they are downturned does not mean they have to be uncomfortably tight. it's the same as any other shoe. you find something that fits your foot. I can wear my testarossas and solutions for quite a while without needing to take them off. Hell i've done multi pitch routes at the gunks in the 'Rossas when a friend forgot his shoes.

Solutions kick ass too..

If so, that's brand new. I've had several pairs of shoes resoled there with Stealth C4 and Onyx over the past couple of years - most recently this spring.

On their website (www.rockandresole.com) they still list these rubbers:

4mm La Sportiva XS Grip
5mm La Sportiva XS Grip
4 mm Five Ten C4
5.5 mm Five Ten C4
Onyx thin
4mm XSV
5 mm XSV

They also say they have down-turn lasts for resoling but I don't have any experience with getting down-turned shoes resoled.

When resoling a shoe they can use a last to help keep the shape but if the tension in the slingshot rand has been broken in or used for a bit. The shoe will quickly return to its natural state.

The more asymetrical a shoe is the more precise the foot placment is so dime edging and nubbings become much easier to stand on then your symetrical rounded toe box comfy's.

Solutions do KICK ASS.
Maintain there FULL downturn nature after resoles even. Great shoe for bouldering and sport.
