| Looking in to buying a helmet. I do a lot of sport climbing and am planning on getting in to trad within the next month or so. Any suggestions? | |

| I recently posted a similar question before buying a new helmet. I bought a Petzl Meteor III and love it. I was wearing a BD Half Dome before, which I also liked, but the Meteor is so light and comfortable. Of course with helmets, like shoes, fit is the most important, and it could just be that my head is so large and most helmets don't cut it. Anyhow, check out the Meteor III and see what you think. Check the following link too: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/general_climbing/best_climb>>>>> | |

| I ended up with the BD Half-Dome. I tried every helmet on and it fit the best, so that's what I ended up with.
Just pick the most comfortable one.

| Petzl Elios is nice for the weight, the harder shell (take a bit of abuse), and the option for a visor (if you regress further from trad to ice). Comes in 2 sizes, 3 colors. | |

| Someone in another thread said they thought this helemt did not appear as well made as other Petzl's, a strap rivet broke fairly quickly I think it was.
I was thinking of getting a couple for me and my kids because it has a youth size. I was glad to hear Leo's good review. Anybody else have any thoughts? Thanks, Jim

| Two things I found this summer.
The Grivel Saly is great for ice but really hot & sweaty for craggin. The new lightweight BD products were truly tested this past summer & saved lives.

| My Edelrid has been going strong for over 15 years of caving and climbing now, with the fake leather stuff on the inside of the headband being the only part to wear out some. Oh, and they come in white and red too, not just the lime green you see in my avatar. That's not the color for everyone. Kind of like baby puke. | |

| I've been loving my Grivel Salamander helmet this summer. The foam is great, makes it more comfortable, there's plenty of ventilation, and it doesn't extend down as far around your head as most other helmets. I disagree with Mark, mine hasn't been noticeably warmer than a Petzl Elios. Maybe the color has to do with that, I got a yellow one. YMMV I guess. | |

| Tim,
Glad to see someone else has the lime green Edelrid! That's what I use and it's served me well over the years. I even lost it once in Navajo Basin (the wind took it while I slept one night), someone found it and returned it to me.
Lot's of good helmets out there now. Nice to see a thread about wearing one. With some of the alpine stuff I do you never know when a loose rock is coming down.
