chipped holds

Went to the Mentmore Climbing Area and was bummed because somebody chipped TWO holds on "Looking For Daniel" a 5.8. The new holds are just below eye level before the 1st bolt. Ruin my day and hope that the culprit(s) leave the rock alone. The bridge has also been washed out, beware.

Are you sure they weren't bullet holes?

Yep, someone chipped new holds and they are not bullet holes. Will try to get a pix soon. The holds were not made perpendicular to the face, but were chiseled struck from the top. This particular 5.8 is tougher than the grade listed, so the average 5.8er will have a tough time. I assume the culprit is not on MP.

From the description: "Almost certainly the most-climbed route at Mentmore, "Daniel" is a favorite of program groups and new climbers. However, this is NOT a great route to get new climbers started on. It may be only 5.8, but it's slabby and thin, with some technical moves and very few jugs or secure rests. Even the very first move can shut some new climbers down."

Guess that last sentence may need to be amended. That sucks.

Bullet hole jokes aside, it's a shame people trash Mentmore with graffiti, garbage and now chipping. The area is really a diamond in the rough. Sorry to hear that about a fun climb.
