Im moving to SLC this summer for 2-3 months. Looking for some temporary and cheap housing! What are the more budget friendly areas in SLC that are still near climbing. I have family in sandy, but I know that place is super expensive.. Anywhere near there on the cheap end? Any hostels or month to month studios or even chill blm land to stay for free? I'm assuming I could do that and then figure out showers as needed.
Thanks for any beta.

Been spending summers in SLC for 3 years. I have a housing set-up through an employer so I am lucky, but I can tell you that it's tough to dirtbag there unless you have a truck to sleep in and a friend's driveway to park it in. The BLM land in the canyons is pretty strictly regulated and camping is pretty expensive, but others may know better than I. Utah has a ton of public land but something like 90% of the population of the state lives along the wasatch front so it's a pretty densely populated area.

Unregulated camping can be found way up American Fork Canyon but you're far far far from the city. That would be a good option if you're focused on climbing in that area.

Maybe you can find a student at the U or Westminster who you can sublet from.

Housing is definitely available month to month in the summers. Students are subletting places pretty commonly too. If you want to dispersed camp on public land you're going to spend a lot on gas driving back and forth. The closest land to dispersed camp on is probably Stansbury Island and that's about 30-45 minutes west of SLC. None of the USFS land on the front is open to dispersed camping.

Make sure to look on both craigslist and ksl for housing opportunities.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
