A stunningly beautiful group of mountains in the Dolomites to the East of Bolzano, quite near the Sella Pass routes and the town of Canazei. It contains many short, moderate classic lines as well as long routes. Access is easy. There are numerous huts to stay in right next to the climbs. There is also camping within a few miles (requiring a bus in the morning up to the access area due to no cars being allowed up the road).

IN mid summer it can be quite crowded with tourists as well as with climbers so you may be sharing your route with others. The rock is standard Dolomite limestone running the gammut from quite solide to quite loose.

Getting There

Unless you stay in a hut up in the Rosengarten area, you will need to take a bus up in the morning (no driving allowed on the bus access road). Park in the car park on the main road between in the town of Pera and Pozza di Fassa, catch the 07:30 bus to the Gardeccia hut. From there you can hike to the base of the climbs.

Climbing Season

This ferrata is a nice introduction to via ferratas. Easy climbing along cables. Exposure is moderate with steep gullys dropping from the path. You move between pinnacles as you climb towards Santer Pass where the small Alberto Rifugio is located. Beautiful panoramic views can be had at Santer Pass with the Valolet Towers nearby. You can reverse the route back to the rifugio or continue around Catinaccio. From the start of the ferrata to Santer Pass takes 1 1/2-2 hours. If you continue aro...[more]   Browse More Classics in International
