Description
- **ACCESS ISSUES*** :(
This crag is now closed and barricaded. Very sad.
Monte Ziretto! South-facing wall. Two sectors: the large upper sector and the smaller Masso sector directly across the approach path. The sun beats down on this place all afternoon til the sun offers a beautiful sunset as it descends below the mountain ridge to the south, way off in the distance. Very beautiful, characteristic, colorful rock. Some parts of the rock look like dried candle wax that was dripping. There are three multipitch sport routes on the 2nd distinct slab section of the crag, and another two spicy 2-pitch sport routes farther down.
Getting There
Driving/parking in any urban area in Italy is a challenge. Parking here is a bit tight. Exit at Taormina off the Catania-Messina autostrada. Follow signs for Castelmola after driving through the toll booth. Guide book 'Di Roccia Di Sole' is spot-on with distance to the turn off for Chicchirichi Restaurant--3 km from the toll booth. Park on the degrading asphalt road going downhill just beyond the Chicchiricci Restaurant, or the large foot trail to the right of that. Large grassy incline on the right that has the trail leading to the foot of the crag. Not much more than a 5 minute hike. Well-worn path traverses up the hill.
