Camping Options at Gunks - April 1st

Hi All,

Relative to the other thread about the MUA closing in May at the Gunks, but not wanting to hijack that thread, what are my options for camping for next weekend (April 1st)?

Going up there primarily for a camping trip with my dad, my son, and my nephew / niece. Would like to do some climbing with them, but don't need to camp "AT" Gunks...can drive over Saturday.

Definitely want family friendly but close to trails and things to do.

Ideas?

Thanks!

I'm sure you'll get some specific suggestions but here's a list of nearby campgrounds:

You could just try to use the new AAC campground.

Just stay at the aac campground. It has everything you need for your group and nothing you don't.

AAC Campground is not open until 4/20 so that's not an option

Call Creekview and check when they open.

Edit:
If you go to Creekview, bring your water! the water on site reeks of sulfur.

They are open if the weather is good. They are just not taking advanced reservations fyi.. Give them a call. It was nice last fall I stayed for a few weeks past closure..

I was just out there. The MUA was the most packed I'd ever seen it due to a large influx of Canadians coming down for the long Easter Weekend. Plus the fact that it was stellar weather for March. 20 cars on the road to either side of the parking entrance..

As for the AAC campground, I called Friday and the guy said they were trying to open Saturday but were waiting on a permit. They didn't open Saturday or Sunday from what I could tell. Hopefully they'll be good this weekend. I'd try that.

Yup, common easter break Gunks trip, great way to start the season for us northerners running out of ice to climb.
Missed it this year but have been there many years.
