Anybody suggest and early season campground that is open for this weekend? While I am at can anybody tell me the conditions in the Whites proper-- is there still snow in the woods?

Thanks,

Jim

Mountain Pines is a very nice campground, no more than 10 minutes from Rumney lots, I have been several times and would definitely suggest them. If they still do not have their shower running, it will only be $5 per person.

+1 on Mountain Pines. Very down to earth people running it.

Dunno which region of the Whites you mean but I was down in Rumney a few weekends ago and we didn't see much snow. In fact the only snow we saw was on that pass on the Kangamangus highway and there was none in North Conway.

Same for me, now that I think of it, I didn't really see any in North Conway/Cathedral area. There was only a spot or two in the shade.

As for higher elevations, I'm sure there's still some. Coming up Route 16 I think Chocorua was still snowcapped and Cranmore still had a few splotches of (manufactured?) snow on their slopes. Looking pretty clear regardless.

Rumney

There's a campground across the street from the main Rumney lot. Could not find their phone number and when we were there last month they didn't have a phone number listed outside either (weren't open yet). Might want to check with them before settling down elsewhere. You could literally put up your tent and walk to the climbs.

As of last weekend, the campground across the street was closed. It seems likely that it was only temporary, but just a heads up.

I also didn't see any snow.

Sounds like Mountain Pines is the best bet. Thanks for the info!

There's a list of options with contact information on the RCA (Rumney Climbing Association) website here:

www.climbrumney.com/rumney-info/where-to-stay/

If you notice that any of the information there is off and needs to be updated, please help us out by reporting it here: www.climbrumney.com/contact-us/

Both the Mountain Pines and Baker River Campgrounds are nice and conveniently located. Good people. :)

Don't forget the bug spray. I got nailed this weekend on a fishing trip, black flies every where.
