Description
The so-called Center of the Universe contains some of the best bouldering in Yosemite Valley on massive polished granite boulders. You'll find many classics here such as the unmistakable Midnight Lightning and the Bachar Cracker.
Just a short walk into the woods away from the hustle and bustle of camp can bring one to many of these boulders, perfect for winding down after a long day in the Valley.
Getting There
Camp 4 is located on the North side of the Valley, southwest of Yosemite Lodge.
The Classics
Mountain Project's determination of some of the classic, most popular, highest rated routes for Camp 4 Bouldering:
For many years (1970-2000?) this campground was called by the NPS "Sunnyside Walk-in Campground", yet all the climbers still referred to it by the original name "Camp 4". This led to some confusion amongst newcomers, as all the signs and rangers called it "Sunnyside". I'm glad to see the signs have been changed to reflect the original name. I noticed some web sites still have "Sunnyside".
While this may not be a great place to sleep in the winter, the winter bouldering is awesome. Yes, it can be a little hit and miss with the snow. But when its on, its the best time of year to be here. No crowds, very little noise, and minimal grease.
