Description

This small buttress is hidden in the shade until mid-morning and located just to the left of the Trough. It can be easily recognized because of a large Ponderosa Pine tree growing out of its top. It also provides access to other routes such as Super Pooper, The Step and The Flakes. It is 165 feet high and has excellent rock quality, but sees little traffic.

Getting There

From Lunch Rock head up and left towards the Maiden Buttress's right side, till you reach a narrow gully; Lower Bulge Buttress is on the right side of the gully. Then scramble up the gully and contour right until you reach the base of the buttress. A large flake is located directly in the center of the buttress; this is called Standup Flake. The approach time from Lunch Rock should take about 5 to 10 minutes. It might also be a good idea to put on climbing shoes before ascending the gully.
