| Here in Vegas, when I was into finding, and selling antiques, and collectibles in my spare time, I was in a Savers thrift store, and stumbled across what looked to be a turn of the century style teapot that had "Tahoe Tavern" engraved on it. It was all banged up, and some of the silverplating was dull, and worn down. The lady that worked there said they had just marked it down that day from 59.99 to 39.99 as it was in their display case for 6 months. I knew old bar pieces were worth quite a bit, but I cringed when I paid the money, and thought 'Okay, worst case, I know I could sell it for at least what I paid for it."
I listed it on EBAY, and the banged up, poor condition teapot closed at 460.00; it turned out it was a pretty rare piece from the old Tahoe Tavern ; desirable because it was considered by collectors as railroad memorabilia, as the railroad was connected with the Tahoe Tavern.
I love old stuff! If I wasn't so busy on my days off, I'd get back into "the hunt." |
