Junction Rock from the 395

Description

This rock is clearly seen from the junction of the 395 and the Mammoth Lakes sr203. The tooth shape rock is high on the hillside above the 395. The East face which faces the road has no climbs, but the west face has one sport route on it.

The rock is most unstable and very fragile. The route takes one of the safest options up the west face, but even then some holds flex!

Getting There

Take the 203 from the 395 towards Mammoth Lakes. 100 yards from the 395 turn right onto a side road (Sawmill Road), which soon turns to gravel. Follow the gravel road and take a right turn which leads you up the hillside on the west side of the ridge, the rock is on the east side. After about 1 mile you'll see a large boulder on the right above the road, this is your landmark for heading over the hill. Park up at the first convenient spot and head over the ridge.
