The "Stone Crusade" boulders are the cover photo for John Sherman's book "Stone Crusade". The cover photo is printed backwards. Back in the 1970s, I would bivi here and boulder. I never saw anyone out there. Grant Hiskes named the place Blitzo Bluffs. The boulders were also called The Blitzo Boulders. I'm sure there are also other names for these boulders.
Two large, high boulders exist. The larger of the two, I always called the Devil Boulder, I'm sure it has other names. The smaller boulder to the northwest always looked like a bird to me.
The climbing is mostly pockets. There is a crack on the bird's east side. Uphill to the east of these boulders is a ridge of rock with some more short cracks.
Getting There
From 395 take West Portal Road east for 0.2 miles. Turn left and follow this road for another 0.7 miles to the Stone Crusade Boulders. The boulders and parking are obvious.
The Parking Area Prow is located on the overhanging boulder just southwest of the parking area for the "Stone Crusade Boulders". This sit start problem begins on the low rail along the sun/shade line in the photo. Using the hueco in the middle of the face, head for the jug at the lip of the prow.
