Description

This volcanic-tuff bouldering area is located a short distance east of Hwy 395 in the Mono Lake basin. The rock quality ranges from good to poor and the problems are limited and scattered. Aeolian Buttes lies south of Mono Lake and west of Mono Craters. It is the oldest volcanic area in the basin.

The two most-visited areas are the Stone Crusade Boulders aka: Blitzo Bluffs and the Chesnuski Boulders. Other boulders exist in the area. This area is a popular sheep-grazing area during the summer.

Getting There

From 395 take West Portal Road east for 0.2 miles. Turn left and follow this road for another 0.7 miles to the Stone Crusade Boulders. The boulders and parking are obvious.

The heel hook and dyno for the jug make this problem really fun....[more]   Browse More Classics in CA

I believe the spelling is "Cheznuski", named after Eastside pioneer, Bill McChesney.
