Summit Rock has been shut down for seasonal raptor nesting; however, County Parks wants to make this a blanket, indefinite closure, continuing long after the chics have fledged (i.e. between Feb. 1st and July 31st).
For more info, visit the Santa Clara County Parks website and look for the Sanborn County Parks Master plan.
Located on the upper rock of the lower tier, this is the furthest right climb. It has a very apparent chimney on the top 10 feet of the climb.
An interesting balance move makes this a worthwhile climb. The crux is just below the second bolt, and has potential for groundfall from 15 feet off the deck. Beware of glass in the base of the chimney above the second bolt.
Protection
4 bolts to a 2 bolt anchor. You could also set up a top rope with minimal difficult by walking around the back of the spire to the top.
Somewhat sketchy climbing off of small holds past the first bolt. Reach up high and right over the lip to find much more positive holds. A pretty good route, fun start.
