Approach Trail Boulder - Poway Crags

Description

A large boulder with an overhanging crack through rough rock. Size ranges from fingers to wide hands.

Location

Uphill off the approach trail about 50-100 yards. Head up from the approach trail when halfway between the Iron Mountain fork and the crag. The boulder and crack are visible from the trail.

Maybe better to do this one when there aren't a lot of hikers that may not like you heading up off the trail.

Protection

Solo or gear lead. Kind of a Woodson height boulder that makes you weigh your options if you don't have a pad. Takes a .5" cam in the middle. A TR would likely get eaten in the crack but could be set with 3" cams.
