almost back to camp after finding the Lost Univers...

Description

There are three distinct Keller Peak crags in separate locations that have Yellow Post campsite #7 as the starting point from which they are accessed. Please note that over the years the Forest Service has removed a couple of these sites and re-numbered those remaining. That is why this campsite is referred to as #8 in Hidden Treasures, Brad Singer’s guidebook for the area. The walls are of typical height for the San Bernardinos, generally 30 to 60 feet, but the granite is some of the best found anywhere in the area. There is a nice mix of traditional crack and sport face climbs in this area and I for one have found all the routes I’ve done so far to be quite enjoyable. As the hikes to these crags originate at a campsite (which like the others on Keller Peak seems always to be occupied on a weekend) please be respectful of any campers and ask them if it would be okay to hike through.

Getting There

To get to Yellow Post campsite #7, take the Keller Peak Rd. (1N96) from the CA 18 in Running Springs. #7 is a couple miles or so up the road; pay attention to the other campsites. You’ll find site #7 on the right side of a long, left-hand curve, after passing the cluster of sites #4, 5 and 6. Once in the campsite, hike to the left to find the start of the old logging road that is the starting point for all Campsite 7 crag destinations. Remember, Keller Peak Rd. is open seasonally, from late Spring to late Fall, weather depending.
