Highway 18 is currently closed from the town of Running Springs to the Big Bear Dam due to the Butler #2 Fire. Big Bear is still accessible via Hwy 18 from Lucerne Valley and Hwy 38 from Redlands.

We went up on sunday 9-16 hoping to be able to go to keller peak but the road was closed at the 330/18 intersection. We were SO close. We went to arrowhead pinnacles instead so it was alright.

The reports we read said it got pretty close to Fawnskin. Does anyone know if Holcomb is untouched?

So far the fire hasn't reached Holcomb Valley, but it's close and heading northeast which will take it even closer. Click on this map for a current view of the fire perimeter (it's the upper of the two fires in SoCal). Zooming in gives a great amount of detail - seven (7) clicks will get you in so close you can read the street names.

The fire is 100% contained now. Road closures are still in effect (Hwy 18 is closed at Green Valley Lake turnoff) so plan accordingly if heading to the Big Bear area.

Highway 18 is open again but some roads and portions of the forest are still closed due to the fire. Click here or here (http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/sanbernardino/conditions/) for a complete list and scroll down about halfway for road and trail closures.
