Description 

The tallest formation at Moonstone Beach is Karen Rock. Numerous 60 foot topropes, variations, and a couple trad excursions can be found here. It faces west collecting the afternoon sun and is often strung with ropes on a nice day.


Getting There 

Walk north up the beach for 75 yards. Look right.

Nightmare 5.12a  CA : Redwood Coast : Moonstone Beach
Nightmare begins by climbing the first half of Dream Theme. Where Dream Theme traverses right, after the large hueco, continue up and left through a blocky bulge to a horn of lighter colored rock. Make a difficult cross through to a series of large but sloping holds, make a couple of moves on these and then continue straight up to the anchor....[more]

Walk up sandy trail. Set up TR. Climb solid conglomerate to see foggy redwoods and meandering estuary, or belay from sand as sun sets.

Heaven on earth, either way.
