This suprisingly nice formation lies directly west of the Duckwaddle Domes, across the flats of Wonderland Valley. It faces northeast and is the left-hand of two eastern facing cliffs. The northeast face has 4 or 5 established routes. The southwest face has one route.
From the top of the formation, it is an easy scramble to the southwest to impressive Disaster Dome and the adjacent Wheelbarrow Rock. Head right off the top of the formation, then off the back and then back around.
Getting There
From the Southern Wonderland Parking Area (dirt lot just east of Barker Dam parking lot) follow the trail (old dirt road) east until it soon curves left (north) and leads you to Uncle Willy's (an old pink ruin). From here head left (westward) under the trees into a wash that soon turns right (north). Follow this wash (the Wonderland Wash) directly north for about 800 yards (0.5 mile) to where the wash ends and the valley opens (the Wonderland Valley). The Astro Domes will first become visible to the northwest; Foolproof Tower will be to your left (west).
Continue more or less straight ahead heading north along the Wonderland Valley for another 1300 yards (0.8 mile), passing Surprise Rock, Freak Bros Dome (on your right) and then Punk Rock (on your left). A bit further on, Duckwaddle Domes will be on your right. Now look to your left (west). Two eastern facing low formations will be seen. The formation on the left is The Backyard. The formation on the right is The Frontyard.
