BETA PHOTO: The Cathouse Right Side

Description

The Cathouse is the formation just south(left) of Playhouse Rock. The climbs are on the south side of the formation. The routes are short, but fun. The area apparently doesn't get climbed a lot as some of the routes are chossy.

Getting There

Park at the Playhouse Rock turnout. The formation is to the left of Playhouse Rock. There is a tree sticking out of the formation on the side opposite Playhouse Rock.

This wall is well sheltered from a west wind and faces Southeast, making it a possible destination on a cold and windy day. The climbs are only so-so, so don't go expecting any memorable classics.

We descended to the climber's left (from the right wall!) along the rib to the west, down some boulders to the south, and then through two holes and finally a small chimney. This brought us right back to the base of the right wall.

While not classics, many of the routes provide good protection, and ascend some of the better than average Josh rock. Not long or necessarily sustained, this collection of routes will satisfy many a novice climber and/or seasoned climber looking for something easy. This package also includes some outstanding views.
