Description

At just about the time you hit Keys Corner Parking Lot, if you look to the right you'll see this crag across the desert floor blooming in the early morning sun. If you park at the pullout past Keys Corner you will probably be able to identify Right and Left Mel Cracks, the standout climbs of the crag.

The crag has climbs on the lower tier and on upper tiers to the left and right of the Mel Cracks.

Not a popular crag, but a good place on a warm day to spend time in the shade honing your skills on steep clean cracks which range anywhere from 5.8 up to 5.11c.

Getting There

From Entrance West pass Keys Corner Parking Lot and then turn right onto the Lost Horse Dirt Road. Park in the second pullout to the left.

Hike basically west, following a faint use trial, across the desert floor, about 15/20 minutes.

It is probably easier (closer) to park at the turnout on the west side of Quail Springs Road, located 1.4 miles past Trashcan Rock (0.8 mile past the Key's Corner parking area). This is right at Roadside Rock. Mel's Diner will be easily seen about 250 yards to the west. At trail heads straight to the crag.

This is true, but it does leave your shiny new SUV on Park Boulevard, removed from any facilities (ie. bathroom).

If you are looking for a crag without people, you can see the Mel Cracks from the main road and Lost Horse rd. If nobody is there, run in and do them.
