Description

This narrow rock corridor lies about 100 yards north-northwest of the very end of the Jumbo Rocks Campground loop. The corridor runs in a north-south direction and is plainly seen from the campground road. The corridor's initial (southern) section is somewhat wide (maybe 60 feet), but its further reaches are perhaps only 15 to 20 feet wide. As a consequence, routes tend to be cool and shady.

Although a number of crack lines are to be found on both sides of the corridor, only a few have been climbed. Once you climb one of established routes, your ferver for ticking these unclimbed lines may be diminished as the texture of the rock is quite rough. Some of the names are less than subtle hints.

All known routes are on the left (west) side of the corridor (facing east). Just where the corridor narrows, you will see an obvious left-facing dihedral. This marks the start of Handsaw (5.10b); Fingers of Frenzy (5.12a TR) starts just right of Handsaw. Deeper into the corridor lie Carnage (5.10c) and Mere Illusion (5.11a).

Descent involves some tricky and devious downclimbing, and lies on the back side (west face) of the rock.

Getting There

Simply drive into Jumbo Rocks campground and find a rare parking spot near the end of the loop. A short walk leads you into the corridor.
