Looking towards Gunsmoke from The Chube.

Description

This very popular area includes the famous Gunsmoke traverse as well as a number of other quality problems scattered about a large open valley. Notable problems here include The Chube (V2), Gunsmoke (V3), High Noon (V5), Streetcar Named Desire (V6+) and currently the hardest boulder problem in Joshua Tree - Iron Resolution (V12+).

Getting There

Park in the large paved lot and follow a trail past the old parking lot and then straight on for a bit until a sharp turn to the left midway along a worn trail (continuing straight ahead leads to Barker Dam), pass a short rocky section, go a bit further and turn right to enter a broad open valley - the Gunsmoke traverse will soon be visible at about one o'clock (slightly to the right). Plan on a 10 minute hike from the car.
