BETA PHOTO: The Bulkhead in the sun just left of center..
Description
This massive rock on the north facing hillside above Rattlesnake Canyon resembles the lower portion of a ship and is easily visible from the parking area. There are two trad routes (with one or more bolts) that ascend quality rock for 85' and are worth the approach. The descent is a walkoff.
Getting There
Head south up the Rattlesnake Canyon wash until it veers west. From this point hike up the steep slope to a ledge at the base of the north face. Some boulder hopping is required.
The Bulkhead is the proud dark brown triangular blockoverlooking the Rattlesnake Forks area. The two routes on it are "Exiled in Sweden" 5.10d ** and "Bulkhead Arete" 5.10b R **. Both routes climb great brown varnish.
Hike up Rattlesnake until past the waterfall area and makethe turn to the west at Rattlesnake Forks. A couple hundred meters above and straddling the faint ridge is the Bulkhead.
