Part of the "Brewer Group". A remote and fine peak with wonderful views of the Bubbs Creek Drainage from the summit. Named after Francis Farquhar, Sierra mountaineer.
In the summit logbook you'll find the following:
“Welcome to the summit of Mt. Farquhar may you have some of the joys and pleasure of climbing peaks and reaching summits in the Sierra Nevada as Francis and I have.”
Marjory Bridge-Farquhar 1990
That's what it's all about IMHO.
Getting There
The approach is for routes on the west face of the mountain.
From Road's End at Cedar Grove hike east, aiming for the Bubbs Creek Trail - once above the valley floor, and at the bridge, head up the Sphinx Creek Trail (pretty darn withering). Break off this trail as it heads up towards Avalanche Pass and follow a faint trail/crosscountry south to lower Sphinx Lake, which makes a very peaceful and far from the madding crowd campsite.
