BETA PHOTO: Columbine Peak from lake just off the Bishop Pass ...

Description

Columbine peak is the peak just to the left of Knapsack pass in the Dusy basin. It is first visible over the Bishop pass. The north face of this peak is very prominently visible from the Bishop pass.

Getting There

From the town of Bishop, take state highway 168 west to the junction with South Lake road. Take the road to the South Lake where it ends at the trailhead for the Bishop pass trail. Hike up the Bishop pass trail to Bishop pass. Aim towards the peak that is closest to the left of the Knapsack pass. This side in the Dusy basin contains north and west sides of the Columbine peak.

As you head south west down the Bishop Pass Trail there are a few good campsites by the first big lake you pass nearby. With some very lovely evening views of alpenglow on the Palisade crest to the east.
