Description

This route follows the corner to the left of the deep cleft in the rock. The three bolts are obvious. There was some discussion on this forum about it being stiffer than 5.4. the estimates ranged from 5.4-5.7. This is a perfect climb to have someone do their first lead on.

I noticed on the topo photo on this site that The Corner Route was rated 5.7. In the guide it is 5.4, which is it? Just curious.

I don't think it's 5.4. Lead it & tell me what you think. My sense is that it's more like 5.6/5.7. Anyone else?

I haven't ever rated a climb...but, compared to climbs listed as 5.7 in the same vicnity(like Red Dawn and The Slot), the Corner Route seemed a lot easier when I led it. That might mean that Red Dawn and The Slot should be rated higher, I don't know. Not really a big deal, I was just curious. The Corner Route was my first lead way back when, so if my first lead was a 5.7 instead of a 5.4, more power to me.:)

I'll give it a 5.6 I lead it and I remember it being way stouter than 5.4 should be. But it could be because it is also slippery Cabrillo rock.
