Description
Burial Grounds are the two "bouldery" rocks up the trail from Rockland. One is about 15' high & the other is about 25' high. To get there, walk up the summit trail about 5 minutes after the Rockland cut-off. When the two rocks are almost directly to your left, take the faint trail along the drainage-way toward the rocks. Don't cut up too early. If you think you've missed the trail, you probably did! This area features top ropeable climbs in the 5.6 to 5.10b range. Anchors are easily accessed from the back of the rock. The southwest sun exposure makes for a good alternative site if it's cold, rained recently, or Rockland/El Dorado are crowded. The area is full of ticks so be sure to check yourself after walking through the brush!
Getting There
Walk 5 minutes up the summit trail past Rockland and take a faint trail to the left adjacent to a small drainage.
If you climb the left rock (Arm and Hammer) you'll need looong slings (say 10'), otherwise you'll have some serious rope drag. The anchors on the right rock are right at the edge. No rope drag, but be careful! If you are a member of the CCC, bring a long sling or rope (say 15') so that you don't fall off the edge while connecting to the anchors. There's a single, solid bolt well back from the edge that you can connect to while you carefully work your way to the anchor.
