Description

Yet another area worth investigating for those who can deal with being labeled a "choss guzzler" or for those who just like remote adventures. This area is in an unconformity with about 60 million years of of geologic time and history washed away. The two formations on either side of this time gap are the Cretaceous Dakota Formation (the cap rocks) and the lower sections are in the Jurassic Henrieville Formation that form the main cliffs and tower(s). These features mostly face south and would get sun most of the day. The ridge behind the little towers will block most of the north winds in winter.

Getting There

From Cannonville head south toward the Kodachrome Basin State Park where the road changes from pavement to dirt as well as to the Cottonwood Road. Travel a few miles down the Cottonwood Rd. past Round Valley Draw (signed) and up the steep hill to Butler Valley (signed). The towers will soon come in to view across the sagebrush on the left or NE side. Park alongside the road as near to the power line tower with the pole coverings as you can (NE side of road) and hike about 20 minutes in to start the search for your favorite pinnacle.
