Anybody out there ever have pins put in for a broken finger? I'm curios about recovery time. The break is not ideal, and my finger is listing at a bad angle, so the doc is recommending pins instead of just a splint.

Hi gumbotron,

I broke my ring and pinkie fingers almost two years ago and had three pins put in. The main issue for me with recovery was that after being in a cast I had built up so much scar tissue I couldn't bend my fingers. I ended up going to a lot of pt and still having two surgeries to correct the scar tissue issues. Although they're not perfect I am back climbing and stronger than I was before. I would recommend consulting with a surgeon or pt about the best options or how often this type of scar tissue damage happens. I'm not sure if it was just me or if that's common with these types of injuries. I learned that fingers are really finicky and quite hard to diagnose fully until you experiment with a couple things. I worked with some really amazing people however, so if you need recommendations on OT or surgeons I'd be happy to give you a few names.

Sorry to hear you're busted up, hopefully it's a simple fix!

I chose not to do screws, and this is what my pinky looks like now, it comes back in to the rest of my fingers when I close my hand, but if my hands open I can't bring it in... At the time I thought "I don't need a straight pinky"... however, I can say, it sure would be nice to have a normal pinky in tight pockets and smaller crimps, I basically have to flag it out now due to discomfort.

Dang that pinky sure is marching to a different drummer. I don't think mine is that bad. Thanks for the help guys. I'll keep pushing the surgeon for info.
