BETA PHOTO: Map of the Breaks with river trail circled in gree...
Description I recently moved to Pikeville, KY because of a job. I NEED somewhere to climb and began looking. I found out about some climbing in this park on the internet and went to take a look being only ~35 min away. Ranger told me how to get to a developed area. I looked around and saw about 8-10 sport routs and a few trad lines on a hard light colored sandstone. Not sure of the bolt quality. Also some toprope areas. Looks like 5.7 - 5.11?? A lot of room for development. Ranger spoke of wanting more climbing in the park! Will update this area when i get some climbing in. Need a partner.
Getting There Breaks Interstate Park is on the Kentucky, Virgina state line. Park in the State Line overlook parking area. Follow fence from overlook to the left. Where fence ends, head down through narrow gap and follow slope to right and you can't miss it. 10 min from truck.

A friend and I climbed a couple of bolted routes off the River Trail in the park (see visitor's center for a full map of trails) The bolts were in good shape, but the routes hadn't been climbed much. Watch out for the quality of the rock, as we had holds brake off quite a few times.

Recently climbed there--bolts were rusted but we're still alive and they all seemed solid. Would like to know who bolted these and when they were bolted though. I don't think we're supposed to climb in a state park though....woopsie :)

Kylie, My name is Brad. My fiance and I hike and climb at the break fairly often. We are from Norton Va and are always looking for climbing partners. Where are you from? Would you be interesting in meeting up to climb sometime?
