Just thought I'd let everyone know that someone shattered my window while I was climbing at the dihedrals area. My car was parked there from about 4 to 7:30. Nothing was missing out of it but watch out because this seems to be more reoccuring thing lately.

Hmmm. I was leaving 5 mile ~6:50 last night and saw some scuzzy looking dude in an red mid size car look like he was scoping cars at the 5 mile parking area when I was walking out, he saw me and drove off. Not much help I know, next time I'll pay more attention..

Well I just realized that my back pack with my books and laptop were in the car and that's what they got. If anyone hears anything or knows anything please let me know. It's a green and black back pack and a blue and black Asus laptop.

Heard a few more cars got popped today. Activity has really picked up in the last few weeks in the afternoon- the thieves are grabbing wallets/purses (and bags if they are handy) and using the credit cards immediately, so take that stuff with you..

Also, please report any break ins/thefts to the UPD, they are actively pursuing this problem.

Curious as to what "actively pursuing" means. In 14 years all I have ever heard regarding this from the Salt Lake Sheriff and now UPD is "yeah that happens a lot".
Don't leave anything in your car that is visible to thieves. They look for valuables in clear site. If your car is empty you'll be left alone. There are so many cars in the canyons there is no need to break any windows unless there is a prize in plain sight. Leave a wallet or backpack and there is a decent chance you'll have this happen.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
