So I'll be visiting friends in GA at the beginning of January and was interested in checking out Rocktown. I was doing some research on the area and on the Southeastern Climbing Coalition's website, they say that the area is sometimes closed for hunting. They linked to this website but I wasn't quite sure what to make of it--especially since a lot of it is "statewide".
On MP it says that the peak climbing season is January, but I just wanted to check with anyone on here if you've ever had issues accessing the area or know more about the hunting restrictions.
I'm also contemplating HP40, but Rocktown is more broke college student friendly with camping and location...so if you have any strong opinions or recommendations, please let me know! Thank you in advance.
I believe you need to apply for a permit to be in this area, but I may be thinking of camping. Anyways the Dept of natural resources for Georgia should have all the info you need

Thanks! I knew about the permit, but I didn't think about contacting the DNR...my local crag is the Red River Gorge and camping permits can be purchased at gas stations, so I had just assumed it was the same sort of deal. I'll try contacting them and finding out :)
This website eregulations.com/georgia/hu… provides a clearer indication of the closures. Search or scroll to Crockford-Pigeon Mountain WMA for closure dates.
The permit is required to use the property (whether climbing or camping) and covers all the expense. GORP passes can be purchased online or at Walmart in LaFayette. To buy online, go to gooutdoorsgeorgia.com

This is exactly what I was trying to find! Thank you! Looks like I should be okay.
