Hi all,

My girlfriend and I are looking at moving to Boise in the fall and would like your opinions on living, working and climbing in Boise. We're looking for a decent sized city or town with climbing nearby and a vibrant community. We'll be in town from January 5th-10th, carless and padless. We'd like to see some of the local climbing, Swan Falls in particular. If anybody would be up to show us around, we'll trade a six pack. Email me at, or shoot a board message.

Rock Climbing Photo: Colombian Crack
I'm fairly newish to Boise and getting into the climbing scene here. THough I haven't been to Swan Falls, I think its more of a scenic destination than a climbing spot. The black cliffs seem closer and better to boise. Im going today and its a decent winter crag, as long as there's a bit of sun to warm the rock. 40-60ft trad and sport, 15-20 mins from town, easy access, fully decent. City of rocks is 3.5 hrs from Boise and is a great destination. Lots of trad, some sport, all good stuff, really great camping. Kinda like j tree, but crags are closer together and there's water available inside the park. McCall has some climbing, 2.5-3 hrs from Boise, plus the sawtooths have tons of back country climbing and lots of winter pursuits. Massacre is another fine area, though I haven't been.

The community in Boise has been great s far. There are some jobs, depending on your industry, and the downtown scene is pretty vibrant. THe bike path is great - practical for commuting and very scenic. The river goes right through town and is beautiful. There's a little kayak park/surf wave, too.
