Probably old news but just in case there is a thread over on supertopo.com about Moses Cam hooks, rivet hangers and tomahawks.

http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?topic_id=83175>>>>>

The Moses Cam hooks are a reproduction of Leeper Cams

The Tomahooks are beaks.

He also makes great looking Rivet hangers.

Everything looks like it has been designed and made to the hightest standards. They look like works of art

See the thread for full details and photos.

John,

Some newb questions. Do you generally place pro above these things ( like walking a cam ) or do you just have to be real careful in how you move so they don't blow? How wide a crack can you use these in? Wide fingers? Are these considered "clean" on sandstone?

Another reason I don't have an avatar/picture. Consider the question answered and understood.

me hat

I am excited, now I don't have to make my own cam hooks or logan hooks for myself and other people... It ends up being a bit cheaper myself but that is if I figure 5 bucks an hour labor.

Cam hooks are for hard rock such as granite only. Never in sandstone. Cam hooks are engaged when you apply weight to them. So once you unweight them, they no longer cam.

So in other words, you place one, stand on your aider to set it and then walk up the ladders and then place another. Reach down to grab the aider and carry on. Best to use daisy's... otherwise you will drop them.

In the right situation you can cover ground very quickly but you don't want to screw up. A lot of people might have a small sling fitted to the top of their ladders, with a couple of cam hooks, a couple of small cams, etc for this purpose. And just like crack jumaring, you usually try to place pro when the opportunity arises or when the distance between pro gets too great. I've really only used them in thin cracks where a cam doesn't really work. I haven't had much success with the wide model.

The Tomahawks are for very thin seems or cracks. Very similar to the BD Peakers but with a little bit more caming action from what I can tell. These could be used either with a hammer or hand placed.

There is a lot of excitement with this new gear coming onto the market. I'll be getting some as soon as my budget allows.

I hand placed two Peckers in a row on a FA a few weeks ago. They were bomber where nothing else worked. They are perfect for hooking constrictions in cracks, and cam when loaded. They are also perfect for hooking deadheads. Those new Tomahawks look even better, but I don't aid enough to buy any.

If anyone is going to buy those new cam hooks, make sure you get the smallest one that they make. That micro cam hook is the bees knees, the Leeper version has saved my butt a couple of times. In the larger sizes cams will usually work and I would prefer to crack jumar than cam hook jumar. The smallest ones fit in RP seams and save tons of time vs placing and cleaning RP's.
