Keeping climbing areas open and conserving the climbing environment
|
|
Description From California Night, head directly towards the crack, scramble through some bushes and start the crack from the left side. Climb on top of a flake/block that sits in the crack. Once on top of the block, down climb into the crack. Start Chimneying. Notice that the crack does not look that tall from outside. Inside however, you see that the rock goes into the ground and it is a long drop. Unless you want to protect this with a Big Bro, this climb is most easily just soloed. Once you are in it, is quite secure. The chimney is the perfect size to jam your knee and take a rest anytime.
Location This is the large crack right next California Night. You can see it from the road. Down climb left off the boulder.
Protection None

| I put a route name, simply because it looked nicer. If anyone knows the real name just let me know. It is not in the SD guidebook. |

| No recorded name that I can find, although some of the old(er) timers might have something. BTW, photo credit goes to someone doesn't it? |

| Name that I got, being brought up at Woodson since '81, was "Big Mac." |

| If that is "Big Mac" 5.8 from Brueckners 1987's guide then something is mixed up, it shows BM closer to Long's Crack by Seminar wall and a lie back...? |

| atp- totally agreed, if Brueckners guide is accurate this is definitely NOT Big Mac. BIg Mac would be a few more boulders over, its an even bigger chimney. |

| If you think big mac is just more east of cali night then #20-big mac- seems it could be to high up the mountain for all i can to be phantom :) via the brueckner guide big mac would be closer to longs right. looking at the distancing of the numbers its hard to be accurate on just how far from each boulder the different climbs are...but big mac is definitely not near cali night, and if its a chim then the description should not be lie back.. |
