This is me.

So I went to a route today that doesn't have a name and isn't in any of the guidebooks. I talked to a guy at the local pro shop and he knows the route, but says it doesn't have a name. Can I just name it or should I seek out the FA and ask him if it's okay with him first? What's the climbing etiquette on that?

Rrrrrrrrrrrr

Definitely try to find the FA and see if they had a name for it. That's always the proper etiquette. But there are a lot of climbs IN guidebooks that are named "unnamed" or "unknown." Sometimes we just have to live with it. That said, I gave a name to one of my route submissions that like yours, seems to have no name and is not in any of the guidebooks. But I made it clear in my description that it was simply what I called the route, as opposed to an official name. Hopefully, one of these days, I'll be able to get more history on the area and update the info.
