DescriptionThe Barker Dam Day Use Area provides access for a handful of good routes; however, they tend to be spread out amongst several rock formations. If you can find it, the Room To Shroom Area has the phenomenal namesake splitter crack plus the less known but excellent Chemical Warfare. Probably the most popular area here is not a route at all, but rather the famous Gunsmoke - a strenuous and long bouldering traverse. Getting ThereWalk, bike, or drive to the Barker Dam Day Use Area, 1.5 miles NE of Hidden Valley Campground along paved road. Most of the routes are approached via the Barker Dam Loop Trail. To approach this route, walk past the right end of the west face and up slabs and boulders to reach the southern end of the formation.This is a classic Joshua Tree sport route - short, but with demanding and unusual moves. Make your way up a steep wall past several horizontals and a lower crux (5.11+) to the top where you will encounter a somewhat reachy crux.
