The Pakistani definition of a mountain according to the Ministry of Tourism in Islamabad is a peak higher than 6500 meters, 21,450 feet. Therefore you dont need permits for peaks lower than that mark. Anything higher, or if you are hiking within 20 km of an international border you will need permits. For a permit, you need to either: 1. Licensed mountain guide OR 2. Pakistan Army Liason Officer (LO) to guide you along the way. Description Baltoro Mustagh includes all peaks around the Baltoro Glacier. This includes K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrums I-IV, Chogolisa, Golden Throne, Marble Peak, Paiyu Peak, The Trango Group, The Eternal Flame, Shipton's Spire, Uli Biaho Tower, Biarchedi Towers, Masherbrum, Cats Eye Spires and several unclimbed peaks and rock towers
Getting There Arrive in Islamabad and either fly (PIA flight for about $60.00) to Skardu or take a bus ($15.00) to Skardu. From Skardu rent a private jeep ($150) from Skardu to Askoli village. It takes 3-4 days to arrive at the snout of the Baltoro Glacier.
