Heading off to climb for spring break. I have about 18 hours total in the car. I am looking for a good audio book. Ideally around 9 hours long. It doesn't have to be climbing specific but I would be nice to have something to get us excited for climbing. Let's hear your suggestions.

Mindy Kaling Is Everyone Hanging out Without Me (read by author)

Yea it's not climbing and yea it's kinda a chick book but damn it's funny. Don't judge.

Also The Enormocast.

David Baldacci, if your into spy/thriller type

Laura Hillenbrand. Unbroken
The unabridged audio book is a lot better than the movie.

Good suggestions. I have heard some of the Mindy book, she is hilarious. I am driving at night so I considered suspense.

Harry Potter audiobooks. Best audiobook reader voice ever. There's 7 books and probably hundreds of hours of audio, enough for many road trips.

I second Dan Carlin's hardcore history - the Roman Empire one got me most of the way across the country, and that and the Mongol one are my two faves so far.

None are climbing related, but I'm not sure how you could not get psyched for anything in life learning about Genghis Khan. Or Voldemort.

I have listened to all the Harry Potter audiobooks read by Stephen fry. They are good. I spend a lot of time in the car.

I've spent a lot of time in the car listening to audiobooks and my favorite so far is City of Thieves by David Benioff. Short recap is that it is a piece of fiction where two young men have to find a dozen eggs for a colonel of the Russian Army in order to save their own lives. Only in war torn Russia there don't seem to be any eggs left. I leave the rest for you to uncover on your own if you're interested. It will only hold you over for 8 and a half hours of your trip but if you're like me (and everyone else I've talked to that's read it) you'll be enthralled from beginning to end. If you choose to listen let me know what you think. Have a great spring break!

I just started FREEDOM! by Adam Kokesh. It's a pretty interesting political book from an anarchist perspective (not saying I agree with it all, just interesting.) It's only ~3hrs long though.

Dude, I do the same thing on long trips.

Sherlock Holmes ones are always good.

I just did The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford recently and it was great.

That guy can tell a story that will get you across the entire state of Kansas without blinking - especially the WWI and mongol series.

Cycle through old RadioLab podcasts. And Agatha Christie novels, especially Poirot... nerdy but awesome.

Try Jeff Long's "The Wall" entertaining climbing fiction set in Yosemite, and for history try Devil in the White City. Eric Larson.

My climbing partner shot down hardcore history. I will still check it out, just not this drive. I was checking out "The Wall". I liked World war Z. Radiolab is a staple on my iPod.

As far as podcasts go, ChalkTalk is alright, and Dirtbag Diaries is great!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
