| Hey guys, I am a 21 year old student at the University of Arizona and aspiring trad climber looking for a possible 'trad mentor' here in Tucson or in southern AZ to climb with a bit and learn from. I have only been leading on gear for a little over a year... feel comfortable leading hard 9's/easy 10's but would really like to learn more technique, building better gear anchors, bomber placements ect... from someone more experienced. I am cool with chossy rock, long approaches, bushwacking, questionably pro, ect.. haha.. Just want to get into it more and learn. All my friends are sport climbers so I have trouble finding people to trad climb with. have a mid-sized rack [15 cams, a bunch of nuts, tri cams, ect..] and can get out most every weekend. Really want to try and hit up some desert rock MP routes [Sedona, Monument Valley, and the like..] some time this spring. Give me a holler and maybe we can work something out! Best Regards, Phil Persson. | |

Hey Phil, you'll probably have better luck if you approach people individually & directly, be it the gym, email through MP.com, UA climbing club, etc. It might be better to say you're looking for a partner, rather than a mentor. | |

| Haha Jon.... Yeah thats probably a good call, I know enough people through the gym and whom I've climbed with outside that it shouldn't be a problem. Well, might as wqell delete this then haha... oh well. | |

| Jon's just a gym rat masquerading as a trad climber, don't listen to him. | |

| Forgot to add, whatever part of the Monument Valley is on the res (all of it maybe?) is off limits to climbers. Unless you pay a local Native american guide, or something like that. Sure other people know a lot more. | |

| Yeah, easy 5.10 trad on Mt Lemmon is kind of an oxymoron, especially on the old school routes, like on Chimney, the Pharaoh, etc.. | |
