ok. i'll admit it, i usually just pay the ridiculous fee to park closer to munchkinland so i have never encountered this. why can't hikers just walk away from these greedy concessionaires? if they have no right at all to charge the money, let em' call the cops or whatever. won't their faces be red when they have to let you walk through for free anyway. it should only happen once, then they'll leave everybody alone. right?

Hi All,

More developments with the fee to walk through Rose Canyon Lake.

The concessionaire (RRM) is now taking the position that they can charge whatever fees they like.

The Forrest Service is trying to figure out what to do about this new development.

With so many people climbing these days, access issues (like these) are going to become much more common. We have been fortunate to escape them for so long. In respect to this situation, I am hoping to avoid any incident between climbers and RRM workers that would reflect badly upon us.

As I previously mentioned, I am interested in collecting any information about your encounters with this concessionaire. I would be gratefull if you would e-mail me anything you think I should know.
Thanks.

Messing around in RMNP in winter, climbing 5.7 in rubber snow boots and ski gloves.

Maybe you guys should stage a mass walk-through (peaceful of course), no attitudes, just do the Ghandi thing.

I parked at the upper area and took the fisherman's trail. We walked right past the snack bar going in and out, and there were some people there. I assumed they were "concessionaire" people. They didn't say anything. This was exactly 2 weeks ago.

So, do they sell snow cones at the concession stand, or what? Because I'd definitely pay a buck for a snow cone after a long day at the crag, maybe even two bucks. Which makes me wonder if anyone ever was charged two bucks. I mean, you have to walk back to your car, right?

Was at Munchkinland today. Parked up and walked through the concessionaire area. Walked passed the attendant who saw our party but did not ask us to pay any fee. Thanks, Scott, for working on this. -Tiffany
