On page 340 in kerry's guide there is a 2 star 5.8 called Blue Plate Special. The route looks really fun and the area looks amazing. The description mentions that the FA's did not place enough bolts and anyone has blessings to place a few more. So I am wondering if anyone knows if there are more bolts or has it been left the same?

And also, on page 172 there is a topo for a route called "Couch Potato" in the Mendoza Canyon section, but i can't find anywhere in the book that tells you where this rock is? Is it fun? Is it in Mendoza Canyon?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I can't contribute much first-hand information, but look at p. 147 for the location of the Potato.

From what I can tell, there is not much traffic in the Santa Teresas. All I have done there is Klondyke Wall, and that was years ago.

I was in there recently. Not easy finding any trail, as they really don't exist. If you have never been into the area near Great White Throne, well, good luck. I was involved in some first ascents there about ten years ago. There is a nice 5.9+ on Holdout Tower, plus another 5.11b, and a 5.9-5.10a in there, too. It is a very beautiful place that is very difficult to navigate around.

I never climbed B.P.S. but suspect no bolts have been added. The other routes listed have brief cruxes and are worth doing if you're going to hike all the way out there. You'll be hiking past A LOT of other great climbing to get there, though. You might consider picking something closer for the first trip. It's not a bad area to explore initially with a day pack--but where's the challenge in that! When we first hiked in from Reef Tank we picked up pieces of a really old trail, seeing old cuts deep in the manzanita bushes. We eventually cairned it together. Probably a little overgrown by now. If you know anyone in NOLS, they have spent lots of time out there.

Couch Potato is in Mendoza, is fun (consider the source,) and offers fantastic views.
Couch Potato is approached by continuing up the main canyon to the left when you get close to Table Dome. Stay in that main drainage until you can access the drainage that drops down from the Bullet/Potato massif. Look for cairns that eventually follow the right side of that drainage to the rock. Follow the base of the rock up and left. 2-4 hours. I'll EM you a picture.

Thank you all for your replies, sorry I haven't thanked earlier but i was doing backcountry work and far from a computer for the last week or so. And Scorptale, thanks for the Couch Potato approach info, it sounds like a perfect day (for some reason, long and burly approaches always help provide for a memorable experience). I can't wait.
