After a nice hike up Ventana Canyon, you are rewarded with two cluster of real good boulders in a beautiful setting.
The lower boulders (Mystic Boulders) are a cool combination of water polished gneiss and highly textured gneiss, ofter on the same problem. This area is small, but the quality is top notch for Tucson.
I haven't explored the upper boulders yet, but they appear to be similar in nature to the boulders in Hairpin. Water polished with lots of cool angles, this area is sure to have some great and hard bouldering.
If anyone has climbed here before, or has info on any bouldering done here, I'd gladly change the names I've given to problems here.
Getting There
Driving: Take Sabino Canyon Rd north, continuing north after the road becomes Kolb Rd. Just north of the entrance for Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is an entrance for Trailhead parking. Park here, trailhead is obvious.
Hiking: Follow well maintained and well traveled trail for about a mile along the public/private easement. You will hike through a fence, then about 1/3 mile later the first cluster will be on the west side of the creek (the trail will be on the east of the creek). The upper cluster is up higher, where the trail veers left and uphill, follow the creek right and uphill to the boulders.
