Can anyone tell me where the correct place to traverse right into the alcove is? At the first ledge you come to (red arrow) or further up at the blue arrow?

I've always done this at the higher one (I think) - lots easier to spot if you view from the left.

I traversed at the first ledge I came to hoping I'd find some bolts or a good gear belay in the little notch below the alcove, but no such luck, so I had to move on up and create massive rope drag.

I had thought about moving further up the arete and then traversing, but the rock looked like it'd never been climbed on (loose) there were big clumps of cacti, etc..Once I got to the alcove I peeked over at the higher traverse and it looked quite a bit harder than 5.7, but maybe it was just the angle I was looking from.
