Description

Bedrock is the steep, heavily pocketed cliff in the alcove right of The Shooting Gallery. This area includes two of The Pit's best moderates, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble (both 5.10b.)

Getting There

Follow the main trail a short distance past the Swiss Tower. Turn right and walk up into the alcove just before The Shooting Gallery.

I've heard that this area is occasionally closed for nesting birds (judging by the amount of bird poop in some of the huecos, I'm inclined to believe that it's true), so keep an eye out for posted closures.

Climbed Barney Rubble and Viper in the winter of '05/'06 and by the spring of '06 there was a Great Horned Owl nesting on the ledge 2/3 of the way up Barney Rubble. Don't know if the owl has been back but if she's there climbing any route on this wall will spook her off the nest. People usually mark the area if the owl is nesting there. Also, in the evenings you could see her hanging out on the big pines near the Swiss Tower.
