I will be taking a group of scouts climbing next week and wanted to ask for a few suggestions of areas/routes. The caveat is I would like there to be a 2-3 mile approach hike. We are preparing for a summer activity and are going to combine a hike and climb event.

I live in Farmington and could head north to Ogden Canyon or south to one of the Cottonwoods. I would like an area with 5.7-5.10 sport climbs. Any suggestions you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Grk...you're bad!

Uintas. Some of the crags have a nice little approach hike. Get the guidebook or search the database on this site.

Snow should be about a non issue methinks. Road's been open for nearly a month.

Another place that would work is Alta up to Cecret Lake. The gate isn't open yet and there's still a bit of snow, but, the milage for your hike would be perfect. No one up there right now either (except for me last night).

I've been wondering when the gate would open. Any ideas?

Thanks Brian. I have climbed several crags in the Uintas and love the area. I will also take a look at Cecret Lake...

From town of Alta:

"Special Notice: The Albion Basin Sumer Road is due to open June 30th 2012"

With a bit of a short cut, the approach isn't too bad and there's no folks. Snow is fairly off the road (some in shade but minimal). Mountain bike approach would be super easy. Hiking doesn't take that long.

Still a pile of snow below Devil's Castle though.
