For some strange reason, I tend to like off-width climbing. And squeeze-chimney. My (climbing) friends think I'm sick in the head. Then again, I also like slab climbing. Maybe I'm really sick. :)

I think you'd really like Trial by Fire, if 5.8 squeeze is your thing. I thought it was mega fun (but slow)... I decided to link it to Super Slider, but on Super Slider I felt kind of dumb carrying all these big cams, and on TbF I felt really stupid carrying all these small cams that got in the way. I think if I were to do it again, I'd bring all my cams to the crag, and do Peruvian Flake, Trial by Fire, and Super Slider independently.

Hey Krutz,

About the important things:

-You could bring a small cooler, or buy one at the grocery on the way into the valley.
When we drive from the airport to the valley we will stop along the way.
It is good to stop and get some items outside of the valley, as it is cheaper.
We can (or will) also get some food for dinner, as the first night we arrive is not catered.
The catering starts the next day. I am unsure of getting ice in the valley, but I am
sure the grocery there has it…

-Beverages can be purchased in the valley at one of the many grocery stores.
One of the stores is right at Curry Village, which is where we will go for showers

-Showers are a 5? minute drive to Curry Village. It is $5.00 per shower.
They give you a clean towel (or two if you ask) each time.
You can shower for as long as you want!
Shampoo & soap should be in the shower stall for use.

-Drinking water is available at the campsite. They have some trailers with water tanks.

—Other useful items = Bring your own plate/bowl, spoon/fork, mug/cup.
The campsite has plenty of seating (picnic tables lined up) and the AAC should be
providing some rain tarps. Ukuele? Seems like a good item to bring! :D

Feel free to pick my brain with any other questions folks!

Does anyone have the best transport method for getting from Sacramento Greyhound Stn to Sacramento Airport ?

I've been told taxi is about $35, or Yolobus goes from 6th & L St, but it's still a half hour walk from the Greyhound Stn to the Yolobus Stn and I'm not sure whether this walk has sidewalks etc.
It looks like can catch a Regional bus to Yolobus Stn and then catch the 42B to the airport is also a possibility.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Paul.

Hi Paul

I'm trying to work the same transfer out, it looks like local bus 15 and then yolobus 42B should do the job for about $4.50 with very little walking.

What time are you due to arrive, I'm due to arrive at the Greyhound station at 1240 Sunday.

Regards

Tim

Anyone driving out from the bay area? I could use a ride from Oakland. Or can I take a bus to the airport pickup?

Hi Tim,

I agree its the 42B Yolobus from Sacramento to the airport, but getting from the Greyhound to the start of the 42B route seems a little confusing. Google maps is saying take Local bus route 11, but that doesn't look right when I go onto sacrt.com.
You're right that Route 15 also goes past the Sac Greyhound Terminal, so it could be the better option (sacrt.com/systemmap/central.st....

I'm not due to arrive at the Sacramento Greyhound Stn until 3:10 pm.

Let's think that the Congress will remove heads from butts…
The funding they want to delay is for a bill that passed fair and square!
But talk like this should go on the "Possible Govt. Shutdown" thread.

CA people. where would we go for a group of 50+!?
I think the Govt. crap is all a show anyway. Bunch of drama queens in Congress.

60 or 70? I am bringing a 70 + a tag line.

60 is probably fine overall. 70 can be good for some cragging routes.

Happy Monday folks!

Hanging out waiting for Die Antwoord to come on stage
So begins the longest work week of my life!

Very excited to see everyone! I am planning on arriving early in the day Sunday. I am guessing there is nothing planned for that day (please correct me if wrong). If there are others around early Sunday, any suggestions for something close-by for a quick warm-up?

I made it to the valley this last weekend! Just to let everyone know the weather is prefect for climbing. Got in several off-widths. Cannot wait!

Horribly depressing news, but the shutdown actually happened. What is the plan for the meet up? Is there any possibility of a reschedule?

Will the shutdown affect us at all ? I've just read here in the UK that National Parks would be affected and likely closed down ? What is the current situation with the trip ? Some urgent clarification would be helpful please.

Ok folks… Yes our government is a bunch of dumb asses. There I said it!

As for the event:

#1 Carol is heading into work and will be sending a email out to everyone in a few hours.

#2 This may only last a day (Or not! In 1995 it shut down for 25 days.)

#3 We have some alternate ideas that will be discussed to see if people are interested.

This is a tough one, because we can not predict what the future will hold with the timeframe of the shutdown. We also have some of the internationals already in the US.

So all I can say is keep your fingers crossed, and check your email in a hour or two for
something from Carol/AAC.

Re-schedule is difficult... like, probably, most people I've got flights, vacation, etc booked and can't just re-schedule easily.

I have flights, vacations, etc booked too, but I would rather a rescheduled meet-up or alternate meet-up site than just cancelling. It's frustrating to have to think about alternatives, for sure. I just am hoping to salvage a good time no matter that Washington ends up doing.

Personally, I am really hoping this is just a super short lived scare tactic and it all blows over by Thursday! (Not just for me but for all those folks going without paychecks until this is resolved)

Edit: Just got the email from Carol. Sounds like a madcap adventure! Could be amazing!!!!! (still fingers crossed for government coming to their senses)

Glad that there are other options! East side Sierras was mentioned in the email. Where else were people thinking if the Valley remains closed?

Your either on the bus or off the Bus
Your either on the bus or off the Bus

Hello All, I just sent out an e-mail to everyone. It seems that many of you are still interested in coming which is great!! If we can't go to the Valley our new theme will be "Your either on the bus or off the Bus" Anyhow, hopefully this will all be moot because the government will reopen. I have sent all of you my contact information so feel free to contact me. I am coming no matter what.

So instead of climbing, participants ride around on a bus and take LSD?

sounds like a great response to the govt shutdown.

Glad to hear there is a plan B. I am just so excited to have a week off of work and nothing to do but go climbing! There are so many great places to go climbing in the Sierra's and they often get over looked by the magnetic draw of the Valley. This is going to be great no matter what happens!

Yes, I plan to have a good time with a week of climbing -- not going to let anything like a government shutdown stop that.
