Up high and beyond the Clamshell. This is a pretty good hike that takes the ambitious climber up and out to the upper meadow above and west of East Hellgate. Probably still quite undeveloped, the prolific and proficient Bill Hunt has been mostly responsible for the existing route activity in this hardman area.

Awesome movement on somewhat dirty limestone. With more traffic this would clean up and be a 5 star route, I would advise a helmet for your belayer as you will encounter loose rock on the initial 30 feet, and smaller rock on the bulk of it. One of the most aesthetic lines at Hellgate....[more] Browse More Classics in UT

Directions: There are different ways to get to the wall but a faint trail does exist. From the Clamshell/East Hellgate, the trail continues up the right side of a steep meadow and over a discontinuous band of rock, putting you at the base of a bigger meadow. By now Altaworld is prominently in view up and to the left. Rather than make a beeline for the cliff, follow the trail to the right. It makes one big switchback: right along the base of the meadow and past some small pine trees, then back left on a diagonal through the meadow and to a point where you can cross a steep rocky drainage. After that, the trail zig zags straight up to the cliff. It is about 10-15 minutes from the car to the Clamshell, and another 10-15 from Clamshell to Altaworld.
